Personalised

I believe in a personalised approach to exercise, guided by proven behaviour-change techniques. My coaching focuses on building a sustainable framework of habits, making regular exercise and balanced nutrition a natural part of your daily life.

I’ll work with you to create a tailored program that fits your lifestyle and goals and ensure you are held accountable.

Comprehensive

My coaching philosophy is rooted in a personalised and holistic approach. While the focus will primarily be on achieving a stronger and fitter body, we will spend time working on the key lifestyle factors which underpin great health:

· Sleep: Critical for progress.

· Stress Management: Ability to distinguish between helpful and unhelpful stress.

· Nutrition: Smart, no-fuss guidance that fits your routine and fuels real results.

· Integration: Designing training plans that complement busy schedules and family life.

Challenging the status quo

I love challenging conventional methods and finding innovative ways to help people excel. I am particularly stubborn when it comes to overcoming training challenges, injuries, and barriers that prevent progress. I take a ‘when it happens’ approach to obstacles as opposed to ‘if it happens’. This means we are less surprised and better prepared when life happens!

Professional

I began reading engineering before the pull of learning how the human body works was too strong! I switched to Exercise, Physical Activity and Health. Since University, I have continued to stay up-to-date with the latest research in human biology, health and psychology. I conduct detailed physiological testing including blood lactate, grip strength, body fat percentage, heart rate and power. If you are starting your exercise journey or are a seasoned athlete, we will utilise testing to track your progress and check our methods are working.

How I work

Josh stays in regular contact, offering continued support & expressing a genuine interest in progress.

Meet Josh

I’m Josh, a professional personal trainer and endurance coach. I specialise in supporting busy people to successfully incorporate exercise and wellbeing practices into their lives.

I work with clients one-on-one, usually from their own home.

I live in Kendal, Cumbria, with my wife and daughter, and I love sharing the outdoors with them. Whether skiing, cycling, or running through our National Park, being active together is one of my greatest joys. In my spare time, I like designing and building small projects for our home, photographing our beautiful national park, and preparing food for my family and friends.

My story

My coaching began 20 years ago at Manchester University when I realised that helping young athletes improve their movement and win races was a lot of fun!

Since University, I have dedicated my work to helping people primarily outside of sport through personal training. I worked for the NHS as a Health Coach in Specialist Weight Management before founding Fearless Training in 2016. My goal has been to transform lives through sustainable health and fitness.

With over two decades of experience in sport, coaching, and the private health sector I’ve developed an expertise in helping individuals unlock their potential and build healthier lives.

My approach is rooted in evidence-based strategies, drawing on extensive research to translate knowledge into actionable, sustainable results for my clients.

  • Ever wonder what the difference is between a coach and a trainer? You’re not alone! While both roles help people improve their health and fitness, the way they go about it is pretty different. Depending on the situation, I do both -

    Trainer -

When I’m wearing my trainer hat, I’m all about getting things done. Think of me as captain of the ship -directive and succinct.

    Coach -

Coaching is more personal and conversational. It’s about working together, figuring out what’s holding you back, and finding ways to move forward. I’ll ask questions, give feedback, and help you think differently about your training. It’s collaborative, supportive, and all about you.

    Why It Matters -

Here’s the fun part: both approaches have their place. Training is great for structure and energy—like when you’re sweating it out in a group or pushing to the limit. Coaching is where we dig a little deeper, focusing on your unique challenges. Both are important and knowing when to switch between them means you’re getting the best of both worlds.

Whether I’m coaching or training, my goal is simple: to help you feel confident, strong, and ready to take on whatever life presents.

  • Who I Work With

I work with individuals who are committed to making meaningful, lasting changes to their health and fitness. Whether you’re just beginning your journey or looking to refine your approach, I can help if you:

    • Are ready to take action: You don’t need all the answers or the perfect plan, but you must be willing to take the first step.

    • Value consistency over perfection: Change doesn’t happen overnight, and I work best with those who are in it for the long haul.

    • Are open to learning and feedback: Personal growth involves embracing new ideas and a willingness to be challenged to adapt.

    • Want to invest time in yourself: This process requires your time and attention—commit, and I’ll help you make it worthwhile.

    • Seek personalised, sustainable support: My approach is tailored to fit your life—not the other way around.

    Who I Don’t Work With

To ensure we’re a good fit, it’s important to note that I may not be the right person to help if you:

    • Expect quick fixes: Sustainable change takes time, and I focus on building long-term results, not short-term solutions.

    • Aren’t ready to commit: If you’re not in a place to prioritise your health or fitness, it might not be the right time to work together.

    • Prefer rigid, one-size-fits-all plans: My approach is adaptable and based on collaboration. If you’re looking for a strict, unchanging regimen, I may not be the best fit.

    • Are unwilling to engage in the process: Progress requires effort, communication, and a willingness to engage fully in coaching. Anyone who has taught or been taught will know that you get out what you put in.

There is nothing standard about the help offered, it was exactly what I needed when I needed it. Foremost, I was listened to and understood. Then I received tailored expertise, delivered with insight, kindness and quiet conviction.
